Report on Representation of Youth in Politics
Arayuz Campaign has prepared a report on the Representation of the Turkish Youth in Politics. The initial cause of the campaign was the inadequacy of youth representation in Turkey. Arayuz Campaign has conducted this study to find out what young people think about this lack of representation. First of all, the campaign team prepared a survey consisting of 13 questions. 393 young people between the ages of 18-29 participated in this survey. Participants from all regions of Turkey took part in the survey. When we look at the regional distribution of the participants, we see that the highest number of participants came from the Marmara Region amounting to 260 people. The rest is as follows in order: 51 people from the Central Anatolia Region, 28 people from the Aegean Region, 24 people from the Mediterranean Region, 23 people from the Black Sea Region, 5 people from the Eastern Anatolia Region and 2 people from the South-eastern Anatolia Region.
The respondents answered the questions on a scale of 0 to 100. Based on this evaluation, the overall score that emerged on a question-by-question basis constitutes an important data to understand the situation of youth representation in Türkiye. When we look at the survey questions, we can see that the following sub-headings were evaluated under the heading of political representation of the youth in Türkiye: the importance of representation regarding decision-makers for the youth, the situation of youth representation in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the situation of youth representation in political parties, youth studies of political parties, the situation of youth representation in local governments, and the functionality of youth representation in Türkiye.
The rapporteurs of the campaign prepared this report according to the data they obtained from this survey. The responses indicate that representation is crucial for the vast majority of young people. The survey also reveals that young people do not think that they are adequately represented. This data confirms the idea of underrepresentation of youth, which was the main cause for the launch of Arayuz Campaign.
