Gökçe Gökçen and Yusuf Akçakaya

The third session of Youth Matters, where Arayuz Campaign brings together young people and politicians, took place on Wednesday, 25th of January at lmpact Hub Istanbul with the participation of CHP Deputy Chairperson for Youth Policies Gökçe Gökçen.

Gökçe Gökçen responded to the questions of the young participants at Mesele Gençlik #3 moderated by Yusuf Akçakaya and touched on many topics from the upcoming general elections to the youth policies they are working on in their party, from the cooperation mechanisms of the table of six on youth issues to the matter of rising ultra-nationalism in the new generation.

Gökçen stated that they are addressing the main problems of the youth mainly around education, employment and freedom and justice, and that the program to be announced after the Table of Six meeting on January 30th will also include youth policies in this context. Noting that they are making preparations to ensure that the participation of university students in the elections does not decrease if the election date is set for 14th of May, Gökçen stressed that the candidacy discussions ” deflect from the target when the opposition is so close to winning and wears down all opposition elements”.

Gökçe Gökçen stated that CHP will not support the constitutional amendment proposal, which contains in her words “both hate crimes and interference in freedom of belief”, in the general assembly as they did in the commission. Moreover, Gökçe Gökçen reiterated that although President Erdoğan’s candidacy is unlawful, they will not base their election campaign solely on this situation.
